Philys Vintage
So Philys Vintage is a company my Father owns. The company started in 2012 as ‘Rems Retro’, he set up the company as an ebay site with his friend from school. The company did well, although it didn’t do as well as planned, the company realised that ebay were taking so much profit from every sale they made. Although their overheads were as small as a two man job they had to take into consideration the cost of everything else on top of that. Actually getting the stock over from America, shipping costs, tax, etc etc…
After a year of so of selling online, my Father getting more passionate about the clothing but his friend not so, he decided to buy him out. His friend didn’t have any passion in the company, he was only bothered about the money - which yes we all are but if you don’t have any passion for the company you own then what is the point of trying to build it?
So in Summer of 2013 my Dad was the owner of a garage full of stock and his house turned into a vintage cave. The office had transformed into a walk in wardrobe of the garments which had been laundered and repaired etc and the living room was a room sized clothes horse. That Summer my Father renamed the brand to Philys - which is made up of his three children’s names, Phoebe, Lily and Sam. The company sold in Melton at Saturday markets and business was good but not as good as it could be.
in 2014, when I told my Father I had to work an intern and as he knew I wasn’t able to do one in London due to my ankle he set us a challenge of rebranding the company and moving forward with it.
